If you are unable to move over one lane due to traffic or other conditions, you must slow down to a speed of 20 mph less than the posted speed limit.

 

Drivers should be aware that the Move Over Law applies to many vehicles, not just emergency responders. It applies to tow trucks, highway maintenance workers, animal control officers, construction vehicles, and any other vehicle that has its lights flashing or rotating.

Failing to comply with the Move Over Law can result in criminal and administrative penalties. It is classified as a misdemeanor offense and carries a fine of up to $500 and up to one year in jail.
